that can be the result of trauma (iatrogenic or noniatrogenic) or may have an idiopathic cause (1). Reduction mammoplasty also invokes extensive soft tissue injury and this occasionally leads to fat necrosis. Fat necrosis is often depicted on mammography as characteristic round calcifications with lucent centers (oil cysts) or as dense amorphous solid calcifications (2). On occasion, however, fat necrosis may have atypical imaging and physical examination features that are indistinguishable from malignancy (3). We report a case of fat necrosis simulating malignancy by mammography and ultrasonography, which developed in the breast following reduction mammoplasty.

Fat necrosis may mimic local recurrence of breast cancer in FDG PET/CT.
Fat necrosis of the breast is a benign condition that most commonly occurs as the result of trauma. The radiographic and clinical significance of fat necrosis of the breast is that it may mimic malignancy. We present a case of false positive FDG PET/CT scan caused by fat necrosis and mimics local recurrence of breast carcinoma 3 years after radical mastectomy. Physicians must be aware of fat ne...

The techniques of reduction mammoplasty are multiple and varied. Each one has advantages and disadvantages. With any of them, full preservation of vascularity and sensitizing of the nipple-areola complex (NAC) should be sought, as well as functionality of the breast. We present our 15 years' experience using the superolateral dermoglandular pedicle, a technique that fully preserves the integrit...

Breast fat necrosis is a benign inflammatory process. Although it is often considered idiopathic, breast fat necrosis is usually caused by trauma, and many idiopathic cases are probably due to microtrauma. Trauma leading to breast fat necrosis can result from accidents or clinical treatment. Among accidental agents, injury from safety belts in traffic accidents is common. Iatrogenic agents incl...
متن کاملBreast lipoma with central fat necrosis: case report
Fat necrosis of the breast is a benign non-suppurative inflammatory process of adipose tissue that most commonly occurs as the result of minor breast trauma. We present a case of a 40-years-old female with fat necrosis in a breast lipoma. She presented with an overlapping mass on the lateral quadrants. Mammography showed Well delineated radiolucent mass with peripheral "egg-shell" calcification...
متن کاملBilateral fat necrosis of the breast: report of a case.
A rare case of bilateral fat necrosis of the breast is reported. The patient was a 50-year-old unmarried woman having no history of trauma, disease or surgery of the breast. In the bilateral breasts, ill-defined, firm masses with skin retraction were noted. Bilateral breast cancer was diagnosed clinically. However, both lesions showed histologically chronic granulomatous inflammation with foci ...
